He is Board Certified by the American Board of Sleep Medicine and is a member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. His main clinical focus is the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders. Current research efforts are in the area of obstructive sleep apnea and other sleep-related breathing disorders. Dr. Frye is heavily involved in the education and training of medical students, residents and fellows at MUSC. He is a member of the MUSC College of Medicine Curriculum Committee and is an MUSC Faculty Senator. Dr. Frye has been a member of the faculty of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at MUSC for 14 years. His main aim is the development and growth of the MUSC Sleep Center as a multidisciplinary and comprehensive sleep disorders resource for the citizens and health care providers in our region.
M. Boyd Gillespie, MD, MS, FACS Assistant Professor Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery Medical University of South Carolina Dr. Gillespie has served as a surgical consultant to the MUSC Sleep Disorders Center since 2000. Dr. Gillespie is a graduate of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine where he completed residency training in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery in 1999 and fellowship training in head and neck surgery in 2000. While at Hopkins, Dr. Gillespie performed research in the Johns Hopkins Sleep Disorders Laboratory and has continued his research efforts at MUSC. He is currently a member of the Sleep Disorders Committee of the American Academy of Otolaryngology- Head & Neck Surgery and maintains active membership in the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. Dr. Gillespie completed a 2-year Masters in Clinical Research Program at MUSC in 2003. He specializes in the surgical management of sleep disorders including snoring, obstructive sleep apnea, and upper airway resistance syndrome. Dr. Gillespie is firmly committed to the welfare of the patient, and works closely with other sleep specialists in order to determine the best course of care for an individual patient. Surgical procedures for sleep disorders performed by Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery at MUSC include: Radiofrequency Reduction, commonly known as “Somnoplasty”- uses a low temperature probe to shrink excessive tissue in throat and nose in order to reduce snoring and obstructive breathing. Procedure is relatively painless and can be performed in the office under local anesthesia. - Septoplasty- correction of deviated nasal septum
- Functional rhinoplasty- correction poor nasal function and appearance
- Turbinate reduction- shrinkage of enlarged nasal tissue that causes nasal blockage.

- Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP)- resection of excessive soft palate tissue.
- Base of tongue reduction with laser or radiofrequency.
- Base of tongue advancement (performed with Oral Surgery).

Dr. Jonathan Halford Dr. Jonathan Halford's primary interests in sleep medicine include insomnia and narcolepsy. His training and enthusiasm for treating these two sleep disorders is a asset to the sleep center and the community. He is a graduate of the Medical University of South Carolina and completed training in both Neurology and Psychiatry at Duke University Medical Center.
He is board certified in both Neurology and Psychiatry and completed a clinical neurophysiology fellowship at Duke University Medical Center in 2003. His subspecialty interest is in epilepsy, neuropsychiatry, and sleep medicine.
