Gene R. Howard, MD, is a professor of ophthalmology at Albert Florens Storm Eye Institute at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina. Dr. Howard received a bachelor's degree from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, and a master's degree in public health from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. He also completed a medical degree, internship in internal medicine, and research fellowship at Johns Hopkins University. After completing a residency in ophthalmology at the University of Illinois in Chicago, Dr. Howard completed a fellowship in oculoplastic surgery and orbital oncology at the University of Iowa in Iowa City. From 1991 until 1995, Dr. Howard was an assistant professor at MUSC in the departments of ophthalmology, dermatology and otolaryngology. He currently serves as a professor in ophthalmology. An attending physician at MUSC, Dr. Howard serves as consulting staff to the MUSC Hollings Cancer Center and to the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of South Carolina in Columbia. Dr. Howard serves as a delegate to the South Carolina Medical Association and as president to Charleston County Ophthalmological Society. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, International Society of Dacryology and Dry Eye, South Carolina Ophthalmological Society, and Charleston County Medical Society. An internationally-renowned ophthalmologist, Dr. Howard has been invited to speak at universities and meetings throughout the world.  More on Dr. Howard
